The Kiev Academic Theater in Pechersk was created in 2000. The basis of the theater was the graduation course of the Kyiv National University of Theater, Film and Television named after Karpenko-Kary. During their student years, this troupe created performances that served as the basis for the repertoire of the future theater. During its formative years, the theater was helped by People’s Artist of the USSR Kirill Yuryevich Lavrov. Renovations were carried out at the theater premises on Shelkovichnaya Street, 3. Since 2004, it was here that the theater found its first refuge. In 2010, the theater moved to a new location at 5 Nemirovich-Danchenko Street, where it continues to operate today.
Over all these years, more than 30 performances have been staged. The theater’s performances took part in festivals in Germany, Great Britain, and Sweden. The theater and individual artists have become laureates of the Kiev Pectoral theater award many times. The performances “Man of La Mancha”, “The Master and Margarita”, “The Law of Tango”, “The Libertine”, “Happiness”, “The Ship Won’t Come” were noted by theater critics and awarded prizes in their categories. All the actors of the New Theater in Pechersk actively star in feature films and television series.
Over the years of its existence, the theater has maintained close contacts and carried out joint projects with the Embassy of the Kingdom of Sweden; Swedish Institute, British Council in Ukraine, Goethe Institute in Ukraine, Cultural Center at the Embassy of the Republic of Italy, Cultural Center “MIR” in Munich, Cultural Center at the Embassy of the Argentine Republic. Today, the theater employs more than 30 actors: some are in the troupe, and others are invited from other theaters. All these years, the artistic director of the theater is Alexander Kryzhanovsky.
