The first stone for the construction of a temple in honor of the Icon of the Mother of God “The Sign” was laid in 2001 on the territory of the 5th maternity hospital. Partial financing of the temple was carried out by the city administration and the chief doctor of the maternity hospital. With this money it was possible to lay the foundation and erect brick walls of the temple. Due to insufficient funding, construction work was stopped, which led to the freezing of any work until 2003. During 2004, through the efforts of the rector and parishioners (donors), it was possible to carry out internal work in the temple. The first service in the church was held on Easter 2003. Since that time, the service of God has been held in the church, prayer services are held, the sacrament of weddings takes place, and children receive the sacrament of baptism and communion.
Taking care of the interior decoration of the Orthodox church, in 2004, paintings in the academic style were applied to the walls of the church, and in 2005, the head physician of the 5th maternity hospital, Mikhail Vasilyevich Makarenko, donated a carved iconostasis made of oak. Over time, for many parishioners of the Solomensky district, the Church of the Sign becomes a family temple. In 2012, the external reconstruction of the temple took place, during which new “Makovka” domes were installed on the church. In 2013, renovation of the wall paintings of the central temple was completed. In 2016, work was carried out to paint icons for the iconostasis of the limit in honor of St. Nicholas.
