Monument to the founders of Kyiv on Maidan

The city’s second monument to the founders of Kyiv with a fountain (the first monument is located in Navodnitsky Park) is located on Maidan Nezalezhnosti. The sculptural composition was installed in 2001 during the reconstruction of the central square of the capital. The sculpture, located in the center of the fountain, represents the figures of three brothers – Kiy, Shchek, Khoriv and their sister Lybid, standing on a large stone block. Kiy is depicted in armor with a sword and shield, Shchek with a plow in his hands, Horeb with a bow, arrows and a horn. Next to them is their sister Lybid with swans flying up into the air. The author of the monument is Anatoly Kushch, who also created the monument to the independence of Ukraine and the sculpture of Archangel Michael.
