The Wax Museum

The Kiev Wax Museum is the private collection of Evgeniy and Alexey Sazhin, who decided to create it in 1997 after visiting the Amsterdam branch of the London Wax Museum. At the moment, the collection of the Kyiv museum includes more than 60 figures of Ukrainian and foreign political figures, writers, actors, singers and athletes. In the early days of the museum’s existence, there was no experience working with wax at a sufficiently high level, and high-quality wax was not immediately acquired, with the help of which the “skin” of the figures could most accurately match the human one in color, elasticity and hardness. To create the “living look” effect of wax doubles of celebrities, specialists from the eye prosthetics laboratory of the Kyiv City Clinical Hospital were involved in the work on the figures. During its development, the wax museum gradually expanded its collection, and the level of work of the team increased so much that the museum began to receive orders to make figures for other museums and organizations, as well as for individuals.

The famous athlete Liliya Podkopaeva allowed the plaster mask to be removed from her face for better results and gave her “copy” her own tracksuit. Viktor Yanukovych, Leonid Kravchuk and Andrei Danilko also shared personal belongings with their “doubles”. The museum also contains figures of Bohdan Khmelnitsky, Vladimir the Great, Viktor Yushchenko, Yulia Timoshenko, Mikhail Bulgakov, Nikolai Gogol, Taras Shevchenko, Lesya Ukrainka, Verka Serduchka, Lyudmila Gurchenko, Andrey Shevchenko, Britney Spears, Valery Lobanovsky, Yuri Nikulin, Georgy Vitsin and many others.
