Church of the Nativity

The Church of the Nativity of Christ in Obolon is a continuation of a single architectural ensemble created on Obolonskaya embankment by the Capital Corporation, the architect of the temple was its chairman , People’s Architect of Ukraine Valentin Isak. He also acted as the only patron of the construction. The temple was built in 2008 and can accommodate approximately 300 people. During the construction, new elements and updates were used that are not inherent in traditional styles of temple construction, but at the same time all proportions and classical construction were preserved both inside and outside. The modern iconostasis and floor are made of Greek and Indian marble.

The domes of the temple are unique. This solution is the author’s. The upper part of the dome is sheathed in gold, and the lower part has translucent structures in a metal frame. The metal structures of the domes are treated with special protective paint (cold galvanizing method). Translucent structures include lighting and reflective elements. The second feature of the temple is the iconostasis made of marble. This is the second such iconostasis in Ukraine. The first one is in Kievo-Pecherskaya Lavra. The unique shapes were made according to a special design by the architect in an antique style. The church’s paintings and interior decoration were made by Ukrainian craftsmen. The central panel on the façade was painted by People’s Artist of Ukraine Lyudmila Ivanovna Meshkova. The bell tower with capitals on metal pipes is equipped with computer-controlled bells. The shrine of the temple consists of particles of the relics of the Saints of the Pechersk, and there is a Sunday school.
