The idea of building a temple on the territory of Kyiv Regional Hospital No. 1 belonged to the chief physician Nikolai Ankin and the rector of the local Orthodox community, Protodeacon Vasily Ozimchuk. On December 17, 2011, with the blessing of the Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, His Beatitude Metropolitan of Kiev and All Ukraine Vladimir, the vicar of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavry, Metropolitan of Vyshgorod and Chernobyl Pavel, performed the rite of consecration of the domed cross of the St. Barbara Church under construction. On April 28, 2013, on Palm Sunday, the clergy celebrated the first divine liturgy. Since September 2014, the church has been operating a Sunday school for children and adults. On December 17, 2017, His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry of Kiev and All Ukraine performed the rite of the great consecration of the temple and the Divine Liturgy in the co-service of the archpastors of the UOC and the clergy of the capital and Ukraine.
