Mariinsky Park (previous names: Tsarsky, Victims of the Revolution, Proletarian, Soviet; incorrect names that go among the people: City Park, Kreschaty Park) is located opposite the building of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the Mariinsky Palace. The park was founded in 1874 on the site of a palace square and a military parade ground, where parades were held. The green area of 9 hectares is designed in a beautiful landscape style. Quiet, shady, with old lindens, maples and chestnuts, Mariinsky Park is a unique monument of park art of the past. The main entrance to the park is opposite the building of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and Mariinsky Palace.
The following monuments are installed in the Mariinsky Park:
1. To the heroes of the October uprising of 1917, on the mass grave of workers and soldiers who died during the uprising for Soviet power in Kyiv in November 1917. The monument was erected in 1927 in front of the entrance to the park. During the Great Patriotic War the monument was destroyed. Restored and opened November 6, 1948. The pedestal is made of black marble, on it is a bowl of red granite. The total height of the monument is 2.5 meters. During the events in the spring of 2014, it was destroyed again.
2. Participants of the January armed uprising of 1918, on the mass grave of the participants in the uprising. The current monument was unveiled on December 21, 1967. A 4-meter-high bronze figure of a worker raising the banner of the revolution is mounted on a 2.5-meter-high pedestal made of black labradorite.
3. General Nikolai Vatutin, on the grave of the commander. The monument was unveiled on January 25, 1948. The gray granite statue sits on a plinth of polished black labradorite. The stylobate of the monument is made in the form of a mosaic carpet. The total height of the monument is 8.5 meters.
4. Andrey Ivanov (one of the leaders of the January Uprising in Kyiv in 1918), a granite tombstone on the grave.
5. Blossoming chestnuts (monument to Kyiv chestnuts).

There are about 100 species of trees in the Mariinsky Park, including ailanthus, Amur velvet, Canadian hazelnut, Schwedler maple, Japanese sophora, and many others. Taking a walk in the park, you can admire the left bank of Kyiv from the observation deck near the Mariinsky Palace, and walking a little to the left and further from the site, you can see named stadium Valery Lobanovsky. At the end of the City Park, which begins behind the Mariinsky Palace, there is Lovers’ Bridge, which leads to Khreschaty Park , and there – visit Water Museum, puppet theater and monument “Love Story”.
