That’s interesting!

1. “Curly green maple, carved leaf” – these words, songs from the movie “Only Old Men Go to Battle”, were touchingly depicted on the very monument (pedestal) in the form of a maple leaf on which a grasshopper sits (that was the name of Lieutenant Aleksandrov from the film).
2. Leonid Bykov lived next to Rusanovka at Tumanyan 8 (now there is a memorial plaque on the house). When he had free time, he liked to fish on the Rusanovsky Canal.

The monument is dedicated to military pilots who died during the liberation of Ukraine. The figure of the monument was taken from Leonid Bykov: he is depicted in his most famous stage image – squadron commander Captain Alexei “Maestro” Titarenko from the movie “Only Old Men Go to Battle”. According to the mayor of Kyiv Alexander Omelchenko, “The talented actor embodied in his role in this film the image of a military pilot during the Great Patriotic War.” The inscription on the pedestal is in Ukrainian: “To the Viysk liotchiks, we are dedicated. Leonid Bikov. Thus, the monument to military pilots is also a monument to the People’s Artist of Ukraine Leonid Bykov, who died in 1979 in a car accident near Kyiv. Often, the monument to military pilots is also called the “monument to Leonid Bykov.”
