Museum-workshop of Ivan Kavaleridze

In 1993, with the support of the Kyiv city state administration and the National Union of Cinematographers of Ukraine, the museum-workshop of Ivan Kavaleridze was founded. The museum is located Andreevsky Spusk 21, in the house where he worked on the project in 1911 monument to Princess Olga future outstanding Ukrainian sculptor, film director and playwright, People’s Artist of Ukraine Ivan Petrovich Kavaleridze. The museum exhibits projects of monuments, easel sculptures in which the sculptor refers to the image of Taras Shevchenko, Grigory Skovoroda, Leo Tolstoy, Fyodor Chaliapin, Ambrose Buchma, Lesya Ukrainka, Nikolai Amosov and other outstanding personalities. The museum also exhibits materials illuminating the life and creative path of Kavaleridze. Visitors are primarily interested in miniature models of monuments to Princess Olga, Cyril and Methodius, Yaroslav the Wise, Taras Shevchenko.

The museum offers a sightseeing tour that includes the artist’s memorial room, where the sculptor’s furniture and personal belongings are on display. Also shown here are digital copies of Ivan Kavaleridze’s films, films dedicated to the artist himself: “The Edge of Talent” (1970), “Ivan Kavaleridze at the Wrinkles of Time” (1987), “From Podol to the Golden Gate” (1998), “The Path of Ivan Kavaleridze” (1999), “The Master and the Muses” (2007).

In 2016, the main and scientific-auxiliary funds of the museum-workshop amounted to 3,366 storage units. The museum has an art gallery where works of contemporary Ukrainian artists are exhibited. The museum-workshop team considers supporting young talented artists of Ukraine – sculptors, painters, designers, filmmakers, and art university students – one of the priority areas of its activities. Exhibitions of young artists are held annually, and creative evenings are organized to promote the best works of contemporary fine art.
