On May 25, 2019, a pedestrian and bicycle bridge was solemnly opened in Kyiv, which connected two parks: Kreshchaty and Vladimirskaya Gorka. First, several cyclists drove over it, to the sounds of an orchestra, and after that, the mayor of the city, Vitaliy Klitschko, and his brother Vladimir walked across the bridge from the side of Volodymyr’s Hill (where one of the visiting cards of Kiev is located – a monument to Volodymyr the Great) in the direction of the Arch of Friendship of Peoples. To test the strength of the glass covering of the bridge, the brothers tested it by jumping on it several times.
Work on the construction of the bridge began at the end of 2018. It has a height of 36 meters and a length of 225 meters. The glass bridge consists of 3 zigzags and moving along it, you will be able to see a new panorama on each segment: monument to Volodymyr the Great, Arch of Peoples’ Friendship, Evropeiska Square, Podil and northern districts of Kyiv, Levoberezhny microdistricts and Troyeshchyna, Dnipro, other metropolitan areas bridges (Podilsko-Voskresenskiy, Paton, Parkovy), Trukhanov Island and Kiev-Pechersk Lavra. During the construction of the glass bridge, the nearby slopes were strengthened, where the National Philharmonia of Ukraine and the Peoples’ Friendship Arch are located. The object cost the city budget more than 400 million hryvnias.
